Magura's
New Karting Brakes Put to the Test... Against Top Level Competition!
When Magura claimed that their
brakes were worth 1.5 seconds a lap, we were desperate to
see them in action. And fortunately for us the first man to
put them to the test was one of our favourite drivers Matty
Tipping of Junior Rotax fame. And if anyone is going to put
a set of brakes through their paces it's Matty!
Now, if these brakes had been worth 1.5
seconds a lap I think we all would have dropped dead on the
spot, in fact if they had been noticably quicker then we would
have been blown away. In all seriousness we were looking to
see whether Matty could get an advantage out of the brakes,
in the area it really counts....OVERTAKING.

So, before I go on take a look at the video and
see what Matty thought of the Magura's....(Hint: he really
liked them, but you'll have to excuse some of his language...he
was quite excited!) And pay particular attention to the
boldness of some of Matty's overtaking moves!
To Illustrate how good these brakes are for overtaking
Matty came from the B Final and up to 6th place in the A Final before
getting fired off the track, and he found the confidence the Magura
Brakes gave him was overwhelming.
So, in conclusion the brakes are not going to
make 1.5 seconds a lap, but they are superior in power and feel....
and in my opinion that is very important and worth fitting to any
kart. Because getting through the pack is all about braking!

Magura Karting
Brakes Makes a Stunning Claim, and Agree to Prove it!
14 Jan 2006
Magura is a world class brakes manufacturer from
Germany, and have developed a new braking system for karting
which they reckon is a bit special.
We just received this press release and have asked
them to back up their claim that these brakes really are that good....So
Magura invited us to test them later on this month. That
way you know if they really are mega, and of course we'll
stick it all on video for you!
Here's their karting press release:
Maranello racing teenager
set to go 1.5 seconds a lap quicker!
If you’re competing in the Junior Max
Super 1 Championship – better watch your back...
…because Leeds teenager Matty Tipping’s
been handed the chance to go 1.5 seconds faster each lap this year,
after winning the Magura brake giveaway at the London Kart Show.
Thanks to the Magura 908.1’s light, four
pad self-adjusting system, the Junior Rotax driver will now have
more stable braking, meaning he can do it much later and with more
control - leading to increased acceleration and a better overall
performance.
The 14 year-old is planning to use his prize to
good effect in this year’s Super 1 championship, "I aim
to win it" he says “I know Magura make the best brakes
in cycling and motor-biking, so as soon as I saw that they made
a kart brake, I said "I'm well up for that!"
Despite being a relative newcomer to karting (his background previously
competing in cycling and trials biking), Matty Tipping is highly
tipped to make the top by those in the know.
Matty will be presented with his Magura 908.1
brake by Trevor Howell of Venhill Engineering Ltd (Magura's UK importer)
at Midday, on Saturday the 14th January, at the Autosport International
show.
